I’ve been toying with the idea of launching a print ad campaign for kinetic typography. You know, in magazines or something like that. I haven’t formalized a solid plan yet, but I’ve toyed around with an 8.5×11″ ad in Photoshop. I want people who buy video advertising see this ad, and begin to doubt their current video ad provider; my goal is to get them to a computer, and type in www.kinetictypography.com. This goes along with how I develop story boards: I hope that as I work on my site and split test various formats, I’ll soon start settling for one best-converting format.
Initially, I knew that I had to keep it simple, and really punchy. After all, that’s what makes best kinetic typography videos as well, right? Short, and to the point. [Side note: My current inspiration for marketing is the Johnson & Johnson "Nurses Heal" ad - tugs at the heart, just like I want all of my kinetic typography videos to do.]
The irony is that 3 hours later, I ended up with the exact polar-opposite of what I envisioned:
This is draft #1. It’s too wordy, it’s too busy, there’s no one single idea – in essence, this is garbage. A landslide of simplification has to happen before I launch / print this. Keep posted for revisions.
Song of the day: Lil Wayne, Dear Anne (Stan Pt. 2). Repeat-worthy.
